New to Horn Driven Radio music from the Monophonics

New and just added to our rotation is music from the San Francisco Bay Area Band the "Monophonics".  We currently have three songs from the recently released CD "Into The Infrasounds".  The three songs in our rotation are "$2.50, I'm Done, and Loose Nukes".

The Bay Area music scene has been setting standards for many decades. The Monophonics are another prime example of the talent spewing forth from the streets of San Francisco and surrounding areas. Since forming in 2005, The Monophonics have evolved into SF Weekly's "Best of the Bay" winners for their retro sound, style, and approach. They have become one of the hottest upcoming live instrumental funk bands with inspirations stemming from the late 1960s and 1970s. Their popularity has continued to grow since their first album "Playin and Simple" was released in September 2007. Their goal is to spread the funk and maintain the classic Bay Area funk sound that has gained them recognition as young heavy-hitters in the soul, jazz, and funk community. Their musical intelligence and funky sound has landed them guest appearances by saxophonist Karl Denson, vocalist Marcus Scott, and Tower of Power's own Mic Gillette on their second album, due to release this year.

TOP Ten things Tower of Power should have known about Canada By Al Carlos

10. Mean faced men in starched hats are not pimps or park rangers.

9. Although many prescriptions are available over the counter, they frown on buying bulk for resale.

8. Dudley Do Right was not a real guy and Nel was not a Babe.

7. Relax, the folding money comes in colors, it’s not a Berkeley flashback.

6. Almost no one speaks Ebonics, (Black Slang) and there are very few interpreters.

5. The only gang sign they know is Elk Horns.

4. Don’t say anything bad about hockey, plaid shirts, or game show hosts, eh?

3. If someone wants to “Throw down the gloves”, run for the door.

2. Don’t argue music with Horndriven radio's TC while drinking without a helmet.

1. If a dude asks if you are “a Mountie” doesn’t mean, he thinks you are Gay.

"Sage's" Frank Anzalone is a man of many talents

Sage is of one of the bands frequently played here at Horn Driven Radio (HDR). They have been around form more than 40 years, and are a staple of the San Francisco South Bay music scene. One of their founders and keyboardist, Frank Anzalone is a man of many talents. Not only does Frank play keyboards, but he is a professional photographer. Franks pictures run the gamut from concert photos, to celebrity pictures, to being one of the premier photographers of “Disney” events.

A few years ago, Frank was brought in to take still shots of Tower Of Power’s 40th anniversary concert at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco. Many of these shots can be seen in the newly released Tower Of Power 40th Anniversary DVD/CD combo. Over the years, Frank has shared a number of his pictures with us here at HDR, below is a slide show of some of Frank’s most recent work capturing Tower Of Power live at the State Theater in Modesto CA. February 04, 2011.
