Station Updates For July 20th, 2007
This weeks Update includes songs from two recently released CD's.
The first is Tony Adamo's "Straight Up Deal". This new CD contains five songs whose horn arrangements were written by Tower of Power alumni Mic Gillette, who also performs on the CD. Tony also has former Tower members Skip Mesquite, and current member Doc Kupka. Additonally, Tony has added the talents of Paul van Wageningen, Eddie Henderson, Paul Jackson, and Rodney Franklin among others to this great new CD. The CD contains elements of R&B, Soul, and Jazz. Three songs from this CD have been added and are as follows:
- Groove Therapy
- Mercy, Mercy, Mercy
- No Strings
You can puchase Tony's Music at the Itunes Store: www.Itunes.com
The second CD is from the Minneapolis based band BlowZone. The Cd is their self title effort "BLOWZONE". BlowZone is a band for people who like to think, feel, and move…all at the same time. Featuring a 5-piece horn section, this Minneapolis-St.Paul-based ensemble has often, and aptly, been described as “genre-bending”. With direct influences that include Miles Davis, Tower of Power, James Brown, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Jimmy Smith, Sly, and the Beatles, the band keeps “a foot in the history and an eye on the future.” BlowZone makes sure the fun stays on top of every groove. Enjoy the band's original songs as well as covers of Bobbie Gentry's "Ode To Billie Joe" and Joni Mitchell's "Helpless." The following three songs from this CD have been added this week:
- Jimmy & Walter & Lee
- Ode To Billie Joe
- Sucker Punch

The Bruce Steinberg Gallery
Bruce Steinberg is one of kind – or maybe more appropriately, one each of many kinds. Well known for his award-winning album-cover and advertising work in the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s, Bruce is more than just a photographer. He is the consummate communicator, creating images and designs that have transcended the heaps of pop culture and survived the test of time.
His music-business credits alone represent the full depth and breadth of classic rock, R&B, funk and jazz; if you ever bought a record album back in the day, chances are that you already have some of his vintage work in your collection.
Working primarily as a creative director and designer, who happened to shoot and use his own photos, Bruce rarely positioned or promoted himself as an assignment or stock photographer. He preferred working directly with musical artists in developing their images and identities to present to their record companies, and ultimately, to their fans. If he didn’t use one of his photos in a given design – even an outstanding photo on its own – it was most likely destined to be archived as an out-take, never to see daylight again. Bruce was always too busy with larger visions of his next projects (including a subsequent career in high-tech marketing) to look back and exploit his vintage shots.
It's a new day, and through this website, Bruce will now offer signed, archival, museum-quality prints, custom-made for you from selected pieces in his historic collection of Tower of Power and other old-school favorites, using state-of-the-art digital technology to reveal richness and detail that you’ve never seen before in these classic images.
To Bruce, it has always been about finding the beauty in the funk, and his work is a celebration of that vision.
